2016 Governing Board Election
The OpenJDK Governing Board oversees the structure and operation of the OpenJDK Community. It has two At-Large Members who serve for a term of one calendar year, nominally starting on the first day of April each year.
Nominations for the 2016 term were due by 23:00 UTC on Monday, 21 March 2016.
During this time any OpenJDK Member could nominate an individual who did not currently hold an appointed Governing Board seat to fill one of the At-Large seats. That individual need not already be an OpenJDK Member. An OpenJDK Member could make more than one such nomination.
Candidates
Two individuals were nominated, and each accepted his nomination. The candidates' own statements were as follows:

It's again been a fairly quiet year for the Governing Board. Where issues have arisen they've mostly been handled without needing the GB to make a ruling. In my opinion, this is exactly as it should be. The various OpenJDK sub-communities by and large govern themselves, requiring little intervention. OpenJDK has a healthy and growing community, with new ports and other significant projects coming from outside Oracle.
However, not everything is perfect. As I wrote in my statement last year, there has been much work behind the scenes to turn the dream of a real OpenJDK Security Group into reality but it's still not done because the legal issues are very hard to get fixed. Everybody agrees about how they want to work, but turning intent into robust legalese seems to be extremely difficult. The JDK 9 Project is the most open that we've ever had, but there are still many hurdles for would-be contributors to jump. We need to work on those.
I'm going to repeat what I said the last couple of years, because it still applies:
My goals remain what they have always been: for OpenJDK to be a truly open free software project, to remove barriers caused by process and administrative overheads, and for everyone, especially newcomers, to be able easily to contribute in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
We're definitely not there yet. I ask for your support as an OpenJDK Governing Board at-large member so that I can continue to work with my fellow board members towards these goals.

I hope to continue my role as an advocate for continuing improvements in OpenJDK processes and mechanisms, especially as they impact the academic, research, and individual contributor communities. Although we have made progress on opening up OpenJDK development processes, some areas still remain to be addressed in the coming year.
Results
Voting started at 23:00 UTC on Tuesday, 22 March, and ran for two weeks, ending at 23:00 UTC on Tuesday, 5 April. Secret ballots were used, per the Governing Board's direction.
There were two candidates for two open seats, so per the OpenJDK Community Bylaws this was a ratification election: Each nominee needed to be approved by a Simple Majority of those Members who voted.
The final tallies were:
